Remote Learning

The government announced a 3rd Lockdown to commence on 5th January 2021 due to the high transmission rates and a new variant of COVID-19 virus following the Christmas holidays. The government instructed schools to restrict attendance, only remaining open for face-to-face education to pupils who are vulnerable, or pupils whose parents are critical workers. The government recognised that in order to restrict attendance and support those who are shielding, there would be occasions when special schools may encounter circumstances where they would not be able to provide the usual provision or interventions due to inadequate staffing ratios, or lack of staff with specialist training. Where it is necessary to take this approach, the government instructed schools to work with families to agree an approach for remote learning that is in the best interests of the child.

At Durham Trinity School and Sports College, those pupils not receiving on-site education will be provided with suitable remote learning in line with government expectations. Teachers at Durham Trinity know their pupils very well, know how their needs can be most effectively met to ensure they continue to make progress if they are not in face-to-face education.

Teachers have contacted families to discuss the most appropriate form of remote learning such as providing: work packs, sensory boxes, 1:1 Teams meetings/Google Meet, virtual or recorded lessons, activity packs linked to the pupil’s learning intentions (small steps towards their EHCP) and learning platforms for the pupils to access online, such as Education City, My Maths and Lexia Core 5.

Parents/carers will need to complete AUP consent forms to enable their child to access remote learning via Teams or Google Classroom.

Below you will find links to a number of learning platforms.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding your child’s remote learning, please contact their class teacher via the class email address in the first instance.

Amy Batey is the Attendance and Remote Learning Leader who can also be contacted for any concerns or queries at homelearning@durhamtrinity.net.
